Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. 1981 she started covering the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently together with the President Reagan to meetings alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
